EMS 151 - Emergency Medical Technician I

Prerequisites: RDG 090 and ENGL 090 or qualifying scores on accepted placement tests

This is the first in a series of four courses that will constitute a certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician, making the student eligible for National Registry Testing and eventual state licensure. In this class, students will be presented with the foundation materials for a career in prehospital emergency medicine. This includes history, legal and ethical concerns, basic human anatomy, and the principles of lifting and moving patients. The class culminates with the initial operations skills like extrication incident command and communications. Students must complete lecture and laboratory tasks in all four courses and complete the clinical rotations in the third and fourth classes to be eligible for the national examination.
