Welding Technology: Advanced Welding, Certificate

The college offers two levels of certificate programs in welding. The basic certificate is oriented toward developing those skills required for entry level jobs in the welding field. The advanced certificate program is also a skills intensive program but takes students through higher-level skill proficiencies, utilizing additional welding procedures and applications. All courses taken in the certificate program are applicable toward the associate of applied science degree.

Program Outcomes

A. Demonstrate safe welding, fabricating, and thermal cutting practices.

B. Perform cutting and gouging procedures using thermal cutting techniques.

C. Follow procedures to deposit sound welds using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) processes.

D. Describe American Welding Society (AWS) Standards as well as industrial standards as they relate to welding.

E. Identify and solve common weldability problems.

F. Demonstrate the proper use and care of common welding, fabricating, and thermal cutting equipment.

G. Identify weld defects, explain methods to prevent defects, and demonstrate proper defect repair.

H. Read prints and interpret welding symbols.

I. Explain knowledge of basic material and welding metallurgy.

J. Specify proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for applicable work environments.

Total Certificate Requirements: 25 credits


Total Certificate Cost: 34 minimum billable contact hours
