ENGL 152 - English Composition II

Students will use research strategies to explore topics and write research papers that demonstrate their findings.

Learning Outcomes:  

  1. Select and narrow a topic suitable for research.
  2. Develop a tentative thesis based within a research topic.
  3. Locate credible, scholarly sources about the research topic from a variety of print and non-print sources.
  4. Evaluate the reliability of sources by analyzing the information and ideas from a variety of print and non-print sources.
  5. Create a working bibliography via a collection of sources related to a chosen research topic.
  6. Incorporate information and ideas from a variety of print and non-print sources using effective summary and paraphrase strategies to avoid plagiarism.
  7. Document source language and ideas by summarizing, paraphrasing, or directly quoting using MLA citation style for in-text citations with awareness of other documentation styles (APA, CBE, ASA, and Chicago).
  8. Document sources using proper methods of MLA citation style including a Works Cited page with awareness of other documentation styles (APA, CBE, ASA, and Chicago).
  9. Develop and organize a research paper using various skills such as style, formatting, and paragraph development.
  10. Demonstrate knowledge of Standard American English and the ability to edit for correct grammar, punctuation, style, sentence structure, and vocabulary.
