This course offers selected students theory and practice in peer tutoring and advanced composition. Emphasis is placed on student writing conferences, process writing and standard research methods. All students enrolled in this course work as tutors in the Writing Center

Learning Outcomes:
- Develop a research project, including a suitable topic, thesis statement, and steps in the research process (working bibliography, annotated bibliography, source critiques, proposal, outline, and drafts).
- Choose credible, scholarly sources from a variety of primary and secondary materials.
- Document sources using proper methods of MLA citation.
- Implement revision strategies, including moving sentences and paragraphs, adding and removing ideas, developing transitions, and reorganizing information.
- Implement editing strategies, analyzing appropriate diction, voice, and tone for specific audiences.
- Apply peer review techniques to critique the writing of others as well as analyze the student’s own work.
- Demonstrate the ability to facilitate writing groups and one-to-one tutoring sessions.
- Demonstrate the ability to use Standard American English, including proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure.
- Recognize the important role writing plays in all academic disciplines and the citation formats associated with various disciplines.
